- ➤ Today, the Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department holds its Final Lap to a Forever Home event at eastside and westside shelters where adoption fees are waived and pets get updated vaccines, pet tags, spaying/neutering, and microchips — adopters receive one free veterinarian visit and, for dogs, one free basic training session — and shelters are open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. KOAT
- ➤ Seventeen year old Gabrielle Montoya from Valencia County became the first girl to earn the Eagle Scout rank after a five year journey in community service—she completed a project converting old tires into dog beds for the local animal shelter and earned more than 40 merit badges that prepared her for a career as a veterinarian. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Gary Aragon said he spent over 10 years networking to secure Old Town Plaza for the 12th annual car show featuring hot rods and customs—cars from Albuquerque and California supporting local charities. The event highlights the community’s rich automotive tradition while drawing collectors from near and far. KOAT
- ➤ Boxing is a big part of Mexican culture and Coach Lee Sillas—who began boxing at age six and fought around the world—now teaches kids in Albuquerque to build strength and grit through this tradition; his team Team Power Plant will compete in a national tournament in Tulsa soon. KOAT
- ➤ The Albuquerque Film + Music Experience is set to run for five days, offering films, concerts and panel discussions with industry experts as it returns for its 13th year. Albuquerque Journal

- ➤ The city will install smart bus stops along Central Avenue in the International District to improve safety and discourage loitering as Route 66 nears its 100th anniversary—an update that will replace old stops. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Lobo Cancer Challenge took place Saturday in Albuquerque where survivors, caregivers, and supporters raised funds for UNM research by walking, running, climbing stairs, and bicycling—each activity helping to ease the pain and fear of battling cancer. Cancer survivor Cheryl Bonner, dressed in teal for ovarian cancer and other colored ribbons for different cancers, said the event provided hope and a sense of community. KOAT
- ➤ On September 20th, 2025, Albuquerque joined Espanola, Bernalillo, and Socorro in the Walk for Lives event organized by United Against Fentanyl as families walked to honor loved ones lost to the drug and to warn others about the risks of fentanyl-laced pills, vape pens, and gummies—organizers stressed that these substances carry deadly dangers. - ➤ Billy Romero (Taos) and Carmen Dorsey-Spitz (Moriarty) won the championship divisions in prep cross country at the Rio Rancho Jamboree on Saturday morning. Albuquerque Journal
