Good morning, Albuquerque.
🏘️ Community
On Saturday morning, cyclists took the 8.5-mile North Diversion Channel route to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta (free bike valet provided) to avoid traffic and costly parking.
The ride took 15 to 45 minutes from different entry points and offered a faster, cheaper option to join the event.
🚧 Accidents
Albuquerque firefighters rescued an uninjured hiker who got lost about three miles up the Embudo Trail in the Sandia Mountains on Saturday — they reached the hiker about two hours after dispatch and guided a 40-minute trek back to the trailhead.
🎭 Culture
Today, the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta continues at Balloon Fiesta Park with events starting at 5:45 a.m. that include a Drone Light Show plus Fiesta de los Globitos and a fireworks show, promising a busy day for visitors.
The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta now offers new commemorative pins honoring Route 66's centennial.
The designs blend neon signs and classic cars (evoking roadside nostalgia) and will be available for trading on designated days during the event.
At Vista Del Norte Park today, families chased hot air balloons landing during Albuquerque’s Balloon Fiesta; nearly two dozen balloons, including one piloted by veteran Jett McDaniel (in her fifth year as pilot), touched down as children cheered the vibrant display.
🎓 Education
Eligible college students at CNM and NMSU can now get free digital access to the local Journal through the new Jrnl+U program, which launched in September + offers news and local business discounts.

A 2023 inspection rated McLead Dam in Garfield as poor due to spillway issues and erosion, prompting Doña Ana County to order evacuations during heavy rains in late September + crews pumped stormwater downstream to ease pressure.
Officials plan repairs to prevent future overtopping and further risk.

Balloon Fiesta is set to delight visitors today in Albuquerque as clear skies and warmer temperatures lift highs into the upper 80s, making it a great day to enjoy local festivals like pumpkin patches and Sunday markets.
