  • On Monday, two balloons hit power lines during the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, the Public Service Company of New Mexico said.  Albuquerque Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta 2025 amazed visitors with vibrant hot-air balloons and family events in Albuquerque—leaving lasting memories for the community.  Albuquerque Journal
  • Conservation and satirist groups launched parody billboards ahead of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, which is underway following a successful Mass Ascension on Sunday—adding a humorous twist to the celebration.  Albuquerque Journal
  • JD Nash, a local alt-country musician with roots in Moriarty, recorded his new album 'Like Water' with his band The Rash of Cash at Sonic Ranch Studios in Tornillo, TX and performs at Open Mic Mondays in Albuquerque. He has shifted from rock and punk sounds to a unique style that draws solid local fans & shows his lifelong passion for music.  The Paper.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jingjing Wang, an associate professor of economics at UNM and associate director of the Water Resources Program, was named a recipient of the NM EPSCoR Mentor Award for her outstanding student guidance. Her students nominated her for her kind and supportive mentoring in STEM subjects like climate science and water use—an honor that marks her leadership in education.  University of New Mexico
  • JJ Conn, a college advisor in Mechanical Engineering, will use fun games—based on her Girl Scout experience—to guide students at New Student Orientation. She will present these ideas at NACADA from Oct 26‑29 and plans to launch a game called Badges to Bachelor's to help students earn pins.  University of New Mexico

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The New Mexico Department of Transportation is studying traffic and safety issues at the Big I while Albuquerque officials have paused some road projects due to Fiesta—officials say further details will be announced soon. This study and project halt aim to address community concerns about congestion and safety around the interchange.  Albuquerque Journal
