COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A prayer walk organized by AIM Albuquerque Grassroots was held Saturday to support the search for missing 28-year-old Haylee Paddyacker — she was last seen in Albuquerque on Sept. 6 and relatives handed out flyers about over 200 missing Native cases. Haylee’s grandmother Gayle Pratt said that her mental challenges may have left her unable to ask for the help she needs.  KOAT

  • Albuquerque native Efraín Villa went to the United Kingdom for a business law course that changed his path to creative entrepreneurship. His trip built on his New Mexico camping roots and shaped his future in global business — a journey that shows his bold curiosity.  University of New Mexico

  • Blue October kicks off its national tour in Albuquerque today as the band performs a local show, and lead singer Justin Furstenfeld said he now focuses on staying positive; he noted that he has left behind his old tortured artist image.  Albuquerque Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UNM assistant professor Milad Marvian received the DOE Early Career Research Award to fund his project on reducing noise in quantum processors—his research aims to advance quantum information processing through randomized control protocols. His work builds on earlier findings that randomization can reduce errors in quantum systems.  University of New Mexico

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildfire mitigation projects are scheduled to resume across New Mexico as freezing temperatures return+ residents near the state’s five national forests may notice extra haze from kivas+.  Albuquerque Journal

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The city received a building permit to convert a vacant office building at San Mateo Boulevard and Central into The Serenade at Park Central, which will offer 110 mixed-income apartments and 41 affordable housing units (housing more than 200 people including families at or below 80% of the area's median income). Construction will begin later this year with a $2 million budget and finish in 2027 (the project is overseen by the Albuquerque Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency).  KOAT
