CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The University of New Mexico worked with the city on a new Route 66 Remixed mural called 'Mother: Moment' at the ARTS Lab as part of a project that adds 18 art stops along Central Avenue to mark the Route 66 Centennial—this initiative uses murals, sculptures, and digital features to show Albuquerque’s rich past and evolving future. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A guide prepared by City Desk ABQ and The Paper presented candidate responses for APS Board seats, detailing each candidate’s background, endorsements, and priorities for local schools—voters now have clear information to compare the contenders. The Paper.
- ➤ Dr. Shengjie Lin, an educational psychologist at UNM, received an early career grant from the American Psychological Association to study how parent behaviors affect student mindsets—he will work with Albuquerque Public Schools to start with parent focus groups and later develop a scale to measure these behaviors. His work aims to build a tool for researchers and help improve math education in the community. University of New Mexico
- ➤ The University of New Mexico’s Open Educational Resources Consortium will host a free book fair today outside Zimmerman Library near the Stone, Paper, Scissors statue—offering free books to show how open textbooks save money and improve access. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Last month, the Department of Government Efficiency partnered with the Department of the Interior to cut $14M in environmental grants—$2.5M of which was allocated to conservation efforts in New Mexico. - ➤ Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham met with Japanese Ambassador Shigeo Yamada in Santa Fe Monday to explain a plan for Rocky Mountain states to export liquefied natural gas to Asia. Officials said no contracts are signed and that new large-scale infrastructure is needed—an effort that may pave the way for long-term job opportunities in the region. Source NM
