COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Albuquerque Public Schools students are planning a 'Drive Out Hunger' food drive this Saturday to restock the McKinney-Vento Program shelves after reports of empty supplies three years ago—demonstrating a strong community effort. Rio Arriba County in Espanola is holding a larger ongoing drive that accepts nonperishable food, stable shelf milk, baby formula, diapers, pet food, hygiene products and winter items—donations can be dropped off at 1122 Industrial Park Road.  KOAT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Albertsons grocery stores announced that 17 locations in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho and Santa Fe will close at 11 p.m. starting today—this one-hour extension will give customers more time to shop.  KOAT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Some New Mexico residents experienced a delay with their state-funded food benefit balances after the system processed a large volume of data on Saturday — officials said balances were expected to appear by this evening or tomorrow.  KOAT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Canteen Brewhouse will host its seventh annual Lager Liftoff on Saturday, Nov. 8, where weightlifters will perform bench press, squat and deadlift to benefit Locker #505 + Big Barn CrossFit and CrossFit Albuquerque will supply the equipment.  Albuquerque Journal
  • The University of New Mexico football team earned bowl eligibility after its 40—35 win over UNLV on November 1; the Lobos improved to a 6—3 record, keeping their chance to play in the Mountain West Championship alive as they begin a bye week ahead of a November 15 game against Colorado State.  KOAT
  • Prep football scores from New Mexico high schools are posted for Week 11 and will update through the weekend—local fans track team performance as games finish.  Albuquerque Journal
