BUSINESS NEWS

  • New Mexico Angels are ranked as the third most active startup network in the world according to the report Angel Network Pulse: The First 101 Deals—President Drew Tulchin said it is the first report of its kind from the association.  Albuquerque Journal
  • After a two-year hiatus, the founder has reopened his Albuquerque restaurant as Last Call Eatery—he closed the business in 2023 after an 11-year run due to COVID-19, a family death, and a move to Montana.  Albuquerque Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the Albuquerque Museum announced that historian Alicia Romero has been named head curator after a nationwide search—she will continue as curator of history, a role she has held since 2023.  Albuquerque Journal
  • On Nov. 7 at UNM, the Festival of Languages brought together students, faculty and alumni—who gave research, cultural and career presentations about language's role in healthcare, community service and education. The event featured 28 sessions and lab activities—such as Japanese tea ceremonies and origami—that showed how language connects communities.  New Mexico Daily Lobo
  • The UNM Art Museum paused gallery exhibitions to launch its Collections Year project that focuses on cataloging and preserving a new gift of over 100 photographs—along with other artworks—from collectors Daniel Greenberg and Susan Steinhauser. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lobo Food Pantry—run by UNM students—offers up to 10 pounds of food and supplies each day to students after federal SNAP funding stopped on Nov. 1 and now helps 100 to 150 students daily. Rep. Melanie Stansbury visited on Nov. 6 and a special legislative session will meet today to extend state food aid to New Mexicans.  New Mexico Daily Lobo

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • UNM released its first Sustainability Strategic Plan on Oct. 29 after a year of planning with focus groups, town halls, and a campus survey. The plan sets clear goals to improve campus operations and build a sustainable culture (such as switching to geothermal heating and expanding recycling) to meet state emission targets.  New Mexico Daily Lobo
  • On Nov. 6, UNM hosted a 'Wildlife without Borders' talk where experts explained how animals move across the border and urged both countries to work together to protect native mammals.   • UNM's defense shone in a Saturday win over UT-Arlington, where Lobo PG1 finally found his rhythm—cementing the win with key plays. Additional quotes and stats highlighted the team's strong performance.  Albuquerque Journal
