- ➤ The UNM Center for Regional Studies has selected MFA alum Emma Ressel and historian Joseph Ukockis as postdoctoral fellows for 2025–26. Both awards include a $50,000 fellowship plus a $2,000 research stipend—supporting Ressel’s work on photo history and Ukockis’s project on Native history and regional place names. - ➤ Federal funding cuts left New Mexico universities with a loss of $95 million for research in farming, energy, and health—officials warn that fewer grant chances may hurt the state’s progress. Lique Coolen, vice president for research at New Mexico Tech, said these losses disrupted projects and urged lawmakers to boost state support so that research and jobs can be protected. Source NM

- ➤ Today, the Navajo Nation and UNM's Earth Data Analysis Center announced a partnership with the Navajo Department of Transportation to build a web-based transportation portal that uses current mapping tools and live shuttle tracking to address local challenges + UNM alumnus Tyler Eshelman will lead the project, which will later expand to include real-time data visualization and aerial mapping for future infrastructure improvements.
