- ➤ The UNM Gives campaign is more than halfway to its $300,000 goal after raising over $152,000 from more than 500 donors during campus events—donations will be accepted until Dec. 15 as the campaign runs through Nov. 30. University of New Mexico

- ➤ UNM and NMSU student teams will face off in the Rio Grande Research Challenge final presentations on Nov. 21 at UNM Anderson School of Management, where they analyze a publicly traded stock and offer a recommendation to a panel of senior investment professionals plus win prizes including a traveling trophy, $2,000 for the winner and $1,000 for the runner-up. - ➤ UNM Bookstores will host a Book Fair from Nov 17 to Nov 21 at its Central Campus location with hundreds of overstock titles on sale in four price categories — $1, $3, $5, and $10. - ➤ Tucked on the lower level of the UNM Student Union Building, the Lobo Food Pantry provides free food and hygiene items to UNM students facing food insecurity and serves about 1,500 students each month. Students must show their UNM ID to pick up up to 10 pounds per visit and the pantry is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.—donations usually spike during the holidays. - ➤ Karina Bolaños, a third-year UNM student from Artesia, is researching the legend of La Llorona by comparing differing versions of the tale and investigating its evolving cultural meaning—she presented her project at the UNM Undergraduate Research Opportunity Conference. - ➤ State officials began a pilot program with five AI wildfire camera stations that scan for smoke near Albuquerque and Santa Fe, planning to add over 40 stations to alert fire crews—helping them act quickly on dry, risky days. In other news, a chromium plume from Los Alamos has spread onto San Ildefonso Pueblo land without threatening drinking water, residents near the MLK streetscape had loud music turned off after complaints, and wildlife workers relocated a wandering Mexican gray wolf named Taylor to a protected zone.
