CULTURE NEWS

  • Former New Mexico Poet Laureate Lauren Camp will discuss 'Poetry & Geography: Mapping Emotions and Experience Through Lines and Stanzas' at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at Albuquerque Museum.  Albuquerque Journal
  • On November 14, students gathered at the UNM Student Union cafeteria for Paint Night where they received free canvases, brushes and paint to express themselves plus many entered a raffle with prizes including gift cards, Beats headphones and an art kit. SUB Programming hosted the event and collaborated with Student Health and Counseling volunteers to provide creative ideas and stress relief tips.  New Mexico Daily Lobo

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New Mexico is installing free water filters to help residents avoid exposure to ‘forever chemicals’ that have affected local water and gardens. The filters will be available soon in areas like La Cienegilla—where residents such as José Villegas have already seen changes in their yards.  Albuquerque Journal

  • Former Interior Secretary Deb Haaland spoke with UNM students on Tuesday, November 11 about her UNM past and her current gubernatorial race while discussing voter engagement, healthcare, education, and immigration reform—focusing on young voters and New Mexico's future.  New Mexico Daily Lobo

SPORTS NEWS

  • New Mexico has nine Alpine ski resorts that get over 200 inches of snow each year—these resorts offer lessons for those who want to learn skiing or snowboarding. The state provides plenty of options for beginners to enjoy the slopes.  Albuquerque Journal
  • The University of New Mexico Lobos beat Colorado State Rams 20—17 on November 15 at University Stadium, ending a 13-game losing streak against CSU and earning their first winning season since 2016. The team now holds a 7—3 record and will face Air Force Academy Falcons on November 22.  New Mexico Daily Lobo
  • On Sunday, November 16th, the UNM women’s basketball team beat the New Mexico State Aggies 77-45 in Las Cruces to snap the Aggies’ two-game win streak. The Lobos’ bench scored 36 points with 10 players and sophomore guard Nayli Padilla led with 14, while the team outrebounded the Aggies 43-31.  New Mexico Daily Lobo
