COMMUNITY NEWS

  • State and local food banks have relaunched a program that lets hunters donate legally killed big game meat to feed those in need during the holiday season. Hunters must promptly field dress and chill the meat—approved processors then check it for safety before packaging and distribution.  KUNM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, local artists join a national arts initiative at GIZMO Arts in downtown Albuquerque from 5 to 7 p.m. and will drop a hand-painted banner, perform with High Desert Playback, and host ACLU canvassing—efforts designed to support free expression and build community ties.  The Paper.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of New Mexico spent over $20 million on campus safety upgrades by adding new fences, improved Code Blue emergency phones, extra lights, more cameras, and key-card locks. Temporary chain-link gates are set to become permanent—plus, the school will ask for more state funds in the spring legislative session.  University of New Mexico
  • The University of New Mexico will retest its Campus Warning System on Tuesday, Nov. 25 at 11:02 a.m. by using the relocated central campus siren which will sound for one minute—pause for one minute then sound an all clear—signal for one minute; UNM will send text and email alerts via LoboAlerts to remind community members about the test.  University of New Mexico

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, the New Mexico congressional delegation and Pueblo leaders held a press conference at All Indian Pueblo Cultural Center to urge Secretary Doug Burgum to visit Chaco Culture National Historical Park and protect it from oil and gas drilling; they raised concerns after the Bureau of Land Management began removing protections in October + they invited Burgum to discuss stronger safeguards.  KUNM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Several states—including New Mexico—have enacted laws to increase oversight of private equity acquisitions in health care, with stricter reporting requirements and stronger powers for attorneys general. The measures aim to protect patient care by limiting market concentration and ensuring transparency in transactions.  Source NM

SPORTS NEWS

  • After a busy recruiting weekend, the Lobos added junior college defensive end Albert Tuakalau and prep safety Marco Beltran, who committed via social, to their team.  Albuquerque Journal
  • The top-seeded Bulldawgs in the Class 6A prep football playoffs built a strong lead in the second quarter—pressing on to beat La Cueva and move into the final round.  Albuquerque Journal
  • Albuquerque prep football teams are set for the 2025 NMAA State Championship semifinals in Classes 4A, 3A & 2A while top competitors in the 5A bracket have yet to be decided. Coaches say the upcoming games will be close contests and fans are gearing up for tough competition.  Albuquerque Journal
  • Nebraska beat UNM in the Hall of Fame Classic after a hot first half — leaving UNM too far behind to complete a comeback — and extended the nation's longest winning streak.  Albuquerque Journal
