Good morning, Albuquerque. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 26th of November.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students in UNM Constitutional Law received an online session with national Title IX experts—Dan Schorr and Alyssa-Rae McGinn—on November 21, where they shared key guidance on student rights and legal protections. The session aimed to enhance understanding of Title IX enforcement on campus.  University of New Mexico
  • UNM’s teacher residency program partners with local schools to guide new educators through a one-year training period that offers a $35,000 stipend, classroom experience, and mentoring from co-teachers—resulting in strong retention rates. Sen. Figueroa visited Eldorado High School to review the program, and applications for next year are now open online.  University of New Mexico

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New Mexico is in its driest 20-year stretch, and climate models show that less snowfall and runoff will lower water levels in the Rio Grande, which many migratory birds use to travel south. Experts warn that without enough water, birds like cranes and geese may shift their travel routes in coming years (megadrought effects play a key role).  Source NM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The New Mexico Taxation and Revenue Department is asking residents to check if they have any unclaimed property from a $390 million pool held by the state. Officials said New Mexicans can verify their records through official channels—helping return funds to rightful owners.  Albuquerque Journal
  • Doña Ana County officials announced that the fairgrounds are closed to patrons with horses (until Dec. 12) as a precaution against Equine Herpes Virus, and the Corrales Christmas parade was canceled on Sunday. Horse owners are urged to follow safety guidelines and monitor their animals closely as officials update the situation.  KOAT
