EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of New Mexico will hold two commencement ceremonies at University Arena for over 2,000 graduates, with the graduate event on Thursday, Dec. 11 and the undergraduate ceremony on Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. (Livestream and program details are available online.) University of New Mexico
- ➤ Araceli Ramirez, a first-generation college graduate, earned her BFA and enrolled in UNM’s master’s program after succeeding with the LUE Scholarship and tuition remission. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Developers behind Project Jupiter in Doña Ana County asked state officials for permits to allow over 14 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year (exceeding Albuquerque and Las Cruces combined) and generate electricity equal to the state’s largest power company. The plan faces concerns over clean energy law compliance. Source NM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ CYFD officials reported ongoing improvements in foster care, including a faster hiring process + closing over 1,300 cases since July as part of a 2018 settlement agreement. Experts, however, have yet to validate the new figures and said they will review the data at the next status meeting in January. KUNM
- ➤ Albuquerque will update nine ABQ Ride routes effective Dec. 13 as part of a 16-phase plan to adjust frequency; Route 66 wait times drop, Route 53 adds Sunday trips, and one route is replaced by a new service zone — officials ask riders to be patient. KUNM

- ➤ On Sunday, Nov. 30, the University of New Mexico announced that football coach Jason Eck signed a five-year extension through 2030 with $400,000 in base pay, media and promotion fees & annual increases; Eck led the Lobos to a 9-3 season and earned Mountain West coach of the year.
