COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Queer and trans youth who age out of foster care can find help at Casa Q and Casa Lola in Albuquerque. Both programs offer safe housing but have few beds and long wait lists (more funding is needed) to support these young people.  Source NM
  • Kevin Thompson, 65, began volunteering with the Aging and Long-Term Services Department Ombudsman Program mid-September to help ensure quality care at local nursing homes and assisted living facilities (he completed online training before starting his work). He will gather and report residents' concerns to improve their treatment.  Source NM

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Christmas Eve, neighbors in a small community near Old Town joined to light over 1,000 luminarias — a tradition dating back over 400 years — with Peter Baca, who returned from the East Coast after 38 years, leading the effort as a symbol of hope for the holiday.  KOAT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • BorderPlex Digital Assets previewed Project Green, a renewable energy plan to supply up to 500 megawatts by 2028 and 1,000 megawatts by 2032 for the AI data center at Project Jupiter in Santa Teresa. The developer will request market information on Jan. 16 for renewable power proposals for the project.  Albuquerque Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Aging and Long Term Services will expand New Mexicare to boost monthly aid up to $1400 for more caregivers, aiming to double enrollment to 1000 with a proposed $6.2 million boost while also expanding a pilot (supporting grandparents raising grandchildren) across New Mexico.  Albuquerque Journal
