About this event
The Castanets class introduces students to the technique, musicality, and artistry of one of Spain's most iconic dance instruments. Open to students in Youth Flamenco 2 through Gentle Flamenco, this class develops the coordination, rhythm, and technical precision required to play castanets with confidence while dancing. Students begin with fundamental castanet technique and progressively develop greater speed, accuracy, independence, and musical understanding throughout the academic year. Because castanet playing strengthens rhythm, coordination, concentration, and upper-body control, it serves as an important companion study that supports success in flamenco, Escuela Bolera, and Danza Estilizada. Using a spiral learning approach, students continually review and refine previously learned exercises while advancing into increasingly complex rhythmic patterns and musical combinations.
