Oliver Prezant Lecturer

Looking to raise your listening to a new level? Interested in learning more about the inner workings of the orchestra?

Join conductor Oliver Prezant for a closer look at Tchaikovsky and his magnificent Fifth Symphony. You’ll learn how he uses woodwinds and horns to comment on his themes, how he builds his expressive melodies into towering emotional climaxes, and how a single theme ties the whole symphony together. We’ll also explore the way his deeply emotional music combines the spirit of old Russian folk tunes and the European music of his time, which drew considerable criticism from his contemporaries on both sides of the music world. This is a great opportunity to learn about Tchaikovsky and what to listen for in his music before seeing the concert on Saturday, November 28!
