The Art of the Sigil: Creating Personal Symbols with Tarot

Saturday, November 21, 2026. 12:30-3 pm MST

What do ancient heraldic crests, family emblems, corporate logos, and magical sigils have in common? They're all ways of communicating ideas, identities, values, and intentions through symbols! A single image can express something that might otherwise require an entire paragraph of words. For centuries, people have created personal symbols to represent who they are, what they believe, what they value, and what they hope to accomplish. Some symbols commemorate achievements, others express aspirations, and still others serve as reminders of promises, purposes, or possibilities.

This month, the Albuquerque Tarot Tribe invites you to explore the art of creating your own personal sigil using the rich symbolic language of tarot.

We'll explore how the images, colors, numbers, shapes, and archetypal themes found in tarot can become ingredients for creating a unique personal emblem.

Perhaps you'd like to create a symbol representing courage, creativity, healing, transformation, protection, wisdom, or a new beginning. Perhaps a particular tarot card has special significance for you, or several cards together express something important about your life's journey.

Your sigil might represent:

• A personal intention or aspiration

• A quality you'd like to develop or strengthen

• A meaningful life transition

• A cherished value or guiding principle

• A personal identity, purpose, or commitment

• A tarot archetype or combination of card themes that speaks to you

No artistic experience is necessary! You don't need to know how to draw, paint, or practice ceremonial magic. We'll approach sigil-making as an imaginative, hands-on exploration of personal symbolism.

You can make your sigil as simple or elaborate as you wish, using drawing, coloring, collage, lettering, geometric shapes, or combinations of these techniques.

We'll provide a selection of basic art materials and creative supplies. You're also welcome to bring favorite materials, meaningful images, or special embellishments of your own.

Come ready to play with symbols, explore possibilities, and create something uniquely meaningful to you.

As always, our Tarot Tribe welcomes diverse perspectives, traditions, and ways of understanding the cards.

Your sigil belongs to you. Its meaning is yours to discover, create, and define.

Let's make some meaningful magic with paper, pencils, imagination, and tarot!

What to Bring

Please bring your favorite tarot deck , along with note-taking materials (notebook or paper and pen). For your personal comfort, we recommend bringing a seat cushion and a sweater or jacket , as seating may be firm and room temperatures can vary. You're also welcome to bring any special art materials or meaningful images you'd like to incorporate into your sigil.

Snacks and Sharing

We'll have a community snack table for anyone who would like to contribute something tasty to share. Contributions are entirely optional.

Tarot and Divination Treasure Exchange

We'll also have a separate table for tarot decks, oracle decks, other divination tools, and books that are ready to find new homes! If you have gently used decks or books that no longer serve your needs but might delight another explorer, bring them along for our informal exchange. It's a lovely opportunity to pass along old treasures, discover new ones, and share resources with fellow Tarot Tribe members. Come for the creativity, stay for the camaraderie, and perhaps go home with a new treasure!
