- ➤ Research Assistant Professor Svende Braun of UNM was chosen as co-convener of the ATLAS Experiment’s B-Physics Weak Decays Working Group and will start her new role in October. - ➤ Professor Christopher Witt from UNM said Albuquerque is ideal for roadrunners because the dry heat and bird feeder economy gives the birds energy from desert lizards+ while urban structures let them thrive. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ At a Wednesday meeting of the Legislative Capital Outlay Subcommittee, analysts reported that an estimated $5.9 billion in funds went unspent for roads, water systems and public schools because local requests exceed available money and the eligibility rules are weak—issues that have delayed projects and raised lawmakers’ concerns. Lawmakers discussed changes to limit reauthorizations and tighten guidelines, and proposals will be introduced in the 2026 session to better match funds with community needs. Source NM
- ➤ Sandoval County officials approved an updated list of polling places on July 23, dropping seven sites because some are unavailable due to renovations, lease changes, or other issues.
